Where does your beef come from? What chemicals have been injected into your food? At Elkanah Ranch just outside of Grandview Texas we raise Texas Longhorn beef. We never use any mRNA vaccines, growth drugs, or other questionable additives. We offer whole and half beef for sale that has been raised here locally. If desired it is grained with a veterinarian designed grain / hay mixture. If you want we can pull directly from the pasture for true grass fed beef. Our soil is lab tested to know what fertilizers and herbicides to apply so that needless chemicals are not used and therefore not in your beef. We are so careful about this that the majority of the weeding done in our pastures is by hand to ensure minimal chemicals. (Do you think any of the big store producers are going through their pastures on a golf cart to spray just the weeds and not blanket spray the whole field?) Obviously it is a good idea to buy local and avoid the chemicals of the big box stores.
Why Longhorn beef. Longhorn beef is a much leaner cut of beef. It has fewer calories, less fat, and less cholesterol than similar cuts of other breeds of cattle. If you are interested in feeding your family high quality lean beef at a reasonable price we are the place.
Here’s how it works: after being grain fed (or pulled from the pasture for grass fed) you pay a deposit and your steer is taken to slaughter. When it is processed (about three weeks), you pay the remainder of price to us and we release it from the processor. You pick it up at the processor, pay them for the processing, and take home your beef. Everything combined, your cost is about $12.00/pound. Compare this with the quality meat markets in Fort Worth and elsewhere. You’re getting a great deal right here locally on USDA inspected beef.
Example:
You purchase a 1,000 pound animal by paying a $1,000 deposit.
The animal is grained sufficiently (if desired) and taken to the processor.
The hanging weight is 500 pounds. You call the processor and decide how you want it cut. (We can help you with this if you’d like.)
You pay the balance owed for the animal, $1,500.
After it is aged it is cut to your specific instructions.
You go to processor to pay for processing (in this case $528.75) pick it up.
You take it home and enjoy lean, healthy beef for about $12 per pound while others are paying upwards of $50 a pound not knowing where the beef came from or what is in it.
These prices are based on a 1,000 pound animal. Weights vary somewhat.
